Crime: Amicicide - the murder of a friend. It's something that did actually happen in Ange's canon, but the line between whether it was real or fictional/metaphorical is really thin - which is what'll make it fun to play around with in-game.

Background: Here and here.

Personality: (content warnings for mentions of: suicide, parental abuse, bullying, gun violence)

Ange is the type of person where your impression of her completely changes depending on how well you know her.

On the outside Ange seems like someone who is unfazed, no matter what happens to her. She's thrown into a lot of dangerous situations that she withstands with a perfect pokerface, hardly showing any emotion even as she jumps off the roof of a huge skyscraper. If anything, she seemed more invested in making sure to say some sort of cool catchphrase as she did so rather than being concerned with the lifethreatening danger she was facing.

The way she usually interacts with other humans seems to suggest as much too. Her conversations are often very business-like. Ange tends to be very to the point, and doesn't seem to tolerate it very well when strangers act all frivolous with her. At one point she even tells someone to keep the jokes to their haircut. This also showed that Ange's detached attitude can sometimes turn to rudeness or bluntness as well, making her seem rather like an ice queen. The fact that Ange tends to view things cynically doesn't help that impression. She's very distrustful of pretty much everything, and often gets herself into trouble by not listening to someone she should just have trusted.

But this entire impression of Ange is just something she tries really hard to project on the outside. In truth Ange isn't nearly as cool or detached or uncaring as she would like to pretend. It's all just a shield in order to protect herself, since she believes people would just hurt her or take advantage of her if she shows any sign of softness or weakness. This stems from all the abuse and bullying she has had to endure when she was younger. She actually does feel things, no matter how little of it is shown on the outside in public.

In fact, Ange feels things very deeply - mostly that she's just really miserable. After her family died when she was young, she was passed off onto her only still living aunt who abused her, only to move on to a boarding school where she was bullied until she even admits out loud that she just wants to die. It's exactly how she can show so little fear even jumping off a skyscraper: Ange doesn't care whether she lives or not. If she dies, then that's just as fine with her. But exactly because she trusts other people so little, she doesn't dare to share her true feelings with them or show them any of that misery. Instead she keeps it all to herself and stews in it, making her feel only more and more miserable in time.

That's not to say that there's zero chance left at happiness for Ange. When people do keep reaching out to her kindly and genuinely, she does slowly start to open. There are a few rare times when we do see Ange more happy and even sometimes smiling in the series, and it's always whenever she's with friends. Once people have wormed themselves into Ange's extremely guarded heart, she slowly dares to share more with them - and she can actually be a kind and more gentle person under these circumstances.

In the end that's what Ange cares about the most - the people she's close to. She's shown willing to sacrifice herself for the people she cares for in the blink of an eye if it'll help said people. Ange's core value is always the people she cares about, whether it's her family or friends.

The whole "detached exterior, way too emotionally involved interior" situation makes Ange's moral compass seem a little odd at times. Ange could do some things that others may see as morally wrong without batting an eye thanks to her cold exterior. In the series she's shown shooting someone in the head in a completely calm and detached way, even telling that person "see you in hell" before doing so. But it's not to say Ange doesn't have any moral compass at all. She obviously wouldn't do anything bad to the people she cares about. And even when she's doing something to someone she doesn't care about, she'd still need a good reason for it. Ange certainly is not a natural killer going around killing random people for fun or anything. If there's a good reason - like revenge, or someone being truly evil, or if it's to save someone she does care for or anything along those lines - then Ange could do pretty much anything. Ange's biggest nightmare is losing even more people she cares for than she already has, and so she'd do anything to keep them by her side.

Abilities: Ange is a witch, since she inherited the title of Beatrice, the Endless Witch, from her aunt Eva. She isn't able to use the endlessly killing and reviving power that comes with the title of Beatrice in canon though. Instead her power mainly consists of summoning the Stakes of Purgatory, which are a set of seven demonic sisters who can turn into stakes that fly around and can skewer people or things. Since they are - in their human form - their own appable characters with personalities, I think a good workaround may be that in this other world Ange's powers are warped to a point where she can only summon their inanimate object forms, so just regular old flying stakes without them having the ability to talk or a personality. This would also play into her 'crime', since the person she 'killed' was one of those demonic sisters, so it would get Ange to think more about the crime she has been assigned and give more things to play with within the themes of the game. If you have a better or different idea in mind though, just let me know! :)
