[ Well, now that's an awkward text to suddenly receive. At least it's easy to tell it's not meant for her, but.. boy. And the username gives her a good idea of who this is too... ]
I hope you were talking about the kind of nightly activities you don't mind others knowing about.
[Is it early evening on July 4th? It's definitely July 4th. Let's pretend this happened on July 4th.
Atsushi had already sent ab obligatory "I'm leaving," text before he left for his new cell home. It took a lot of thought and consideration to even send those two words. Was it too much? Did she even care? Would she find it annoying if he sent a ton of texts? He vowed not to send many. No matter how lonely he may get, Ange was his friend.
And he had no idea how to have friends! But he knew how to annoy people. And he didn't want to annoy his friend.
As he arrived at the cell, Atsushi brought up the Fluid again. Was this important? Would she care? Was he texting for his sake or hers? He wasn't sure, but the temptation won out.]
I'm here. And it has a mattress! Maybe I'll be able to sleep.
[Aaand it won't be long before he regrets the text. Why would she care about him being able to sleep? That's weird. He's being strange and annoying, isn't he?]
What I mean is that I'll be comfortable.
You won't need to worry. I think tonight is July 4th, so I hope you're having fun.
*An American holiday called July 4th. I know the date.
All of this is way too bright and cute for her. But it's a gift. From a friend. That means there's no way in hell Ange could just toss it out.
Which means she ends up taking the box and the present inside, staring at it for most of the day, and then giving in by nightfall.
Ange actually puts on the kigurumi, and - with a lot of trust in Usagi here, you better not use this as future blackmail material, girl! - she actually takes a picture of herself wearing it and sends it to Usagi.
The message underneath the photo is simple, since it's more about the picture proof of her using it. She figures that says more about her appreciation of it than words could. ]
Ange-san... th-this is Sana Futaba. I... I was home. I was home for a while, it seemed... but... it feels like nothing's changed here, or nothing happened... that... I'm not sure. But I just... I wanted to make sure you were all right.
[ .. Sana. It's such a relief to hear that voice once she picks up. Maybe she shouldn't feel so glad, since it'd be better for the other girl to not be here in the middle of this mess, but..
They're friends. And Ange would hate to miss her at a time when she's feeling this cruddy, as selfish as she knows that desire to be. ]
You have no idea how glad I am to hear your voice.
[ It's not something she'd always admit, but to Sana? Gladly. Anytime. Her tone may be a bit softer than usually, but it's since she's trying to keep anyone else from overhearing her being soft. ]
Nevermind me, I should be asking that about you. How was home?
Talk about texts she didn't expect to see this month. It takes her a moment to even realise what this is about, that's how far the thoughts about witches had fallen to the back of her mind with everything else going on. ]
You're not a witch I know, are you?
[ LET'S GET THAT OUT OF THE WAY FIRST. Before she ends up texting with someone she hates without even realising it... ]
[There are very few people Richie can talk to about this. The people Richie does want to talk to are too close to this, or they've long since gone home. Ange is really the first person he can think of who might be able to give him advice, so:]
what do you do if you fuck thigns up wihth your best friend by accidetn and you want tot talk to them abotu it but you have no idea wher eto even fucking start
[ Talk about an unexpected text. Though sure not an unwelcome one, and so Ange is pretty quick to text back. ]
Well, for starters, I think a lot of people messed things up with their friends last month, so I don't think it's anything said hypothetical person should be too hard on themselves for.
[ Sure, whatever, she'll go along with this whole 'hypothetical but obviously not' line of talking about it. Ange knows some things are too embarrassing or shameful to talk about directly. ]
I guess it depends on how big of a screwup it was.
[ Though that doesn't necessarily mean she's in the best shape either. The lack of food, the constant presence of other people - it's taking its toll as well. ]
You didn't run into that woman who hurt you again, did you?
[So. The whole situation in that vision was ... something. The things they'd seen and learned? The fact that they'd been 'killed' by Mother Superior, even if not really. Not like a normal death in this awful place anyway. Some of the things said like 'I will protect you.' Lot to process. But Vira-Lorr didn't want to sit on it forever.
She knew for a fact that Ange tended to keep to herself, so eventually she sent her a direct message.]
We haven't talked, since the vision. I wanted to make sure you've been alright. No problems... if you wanted to talk about what we saw.
[ She's very right in thinking that Ange keeps to herself. It's why she hadn't bothered to send Vira-Lorr a message, really. Or even told anyone else about what had happened. It's just one of those things that Ange shoves down to sit with all the other things she never talks about.
So it's a bit of a surprise to find this message waiting for her. But the fact that someone was considerate enough to think of her and send her it in the first place means she doesn't hesitate too much before replying. ]
Ah, well.. Is anyone truly ever alright in this place? [ Said dryly, of course. ] But I'm 'fine', relatively speaking. I'm not really thinking about what happened.
[ Or. Well, not the death part, anyway, and that's what Ange assumes Vira wanted to talk about. ]
[Ange will find a nicely wrapped box with a business card attached. Inside is a finely crafted gun sword made specifically for her. There is also an embarrassing card from Ruby that reads.
"Ange~! So you can better protect yourself. Your Pal, Ruby. XOXOXOXOXOX~!"]
[On the 25th Ange will find a gift has been left outside her door! According to the tag it's from Fern, and inside the meticulously wrapped package is a butterfly pendant carved from bone. There's a note accompanying it:]
I hope this can be a reminder that you aren't alone and you've got friends out there, where you end up
[ What a good little plant pal. Ange is completely surprised to find it, but in a good way. The kind of way where she'll make sure to treasure it. In fact, she even shoots off a quick message at Fern. Because she doesn't just want to ignore this, or have him think she's ignoring it. ]
[Late in the evening, there's going to be a small, neatly wrapped package left outside of Ange's door. Atop it, there's a note, unsigned and written in messy handwriting:
To Ushiromiya
Merry Christmas. Thank you for being a good friend. Stay warm and stay safe for the holidays.
Within the package is a tin of cookies and a deer print circle scarf, both apparently handmade. If she's quick enough, she might see a shimmering young wolf with a bag upon it's back starting to dart away from the steps, it's golden eyes glancing over it's shoulder.]
[ Ange hasn't seen the present itself yet. Or rather, she sees the package, but she has no time to look at it before her gaze is instead drawn towards something she can see moving in the shadows.
She takes a step forward, only then realising in the glow of the lamp on her porch that it's a very young wolf. No.. Not a real one, with that shimmering form, but.. ]
Hey.
[ Ange calls out to it, but calmly. Quietly. Like she doesn't want to startle it, especially when it looks ready to dash. She even lowers herself to her knees. ]
Why does everyone talk about those things. Are they really that great?
And yes, I'm here. I'd tell you my room number, but really, it doesn't matter when they're all ridiculous and it's impossible to find anything in here.
[Ruby hasn't had much time to cope over the whole eyeloss situation. It was a huge adjustment and the pain was still fresh but she didn't want that to hold her down.
So... She decided to call a friend to make some plans.]
Hey-uh... Ange. How's it going?
Listen, I was wondering if you had any plans on the fourteenth?
Ange isn't even surprised anymore at this point. She doesn't even know what exactly put this idea into Usagi's head, but it seems so very much like Usagi - the girl who would demonstrate random ways to ask someone out on the spot without warning - that Ange hardly even does as much as blink when she reads the letter.
(There's no denying though that it is a very sweet gesture of friendship. So of course Ange doesn't throw it away, instead tucking it away inside of a drawer. ]
[ Oh god. If the gift itself wasn't sweet enough, the note would do the trick. And thankfully it makes it very clear that this isn't supposed to be a romantic sort of thing.
There's no way she can fully ignore such a sweet gesture though, so Ange quickly makes sure to send him a text. ]
Thanks for the chocolates.
And don't worry about it. Valentine's Day is dumb and complicated. I don't really get it either.
[ And she's from a place where it is an actual holiday! ]
I just hope no one will awkwardly interpret it as a romantic gesture. [ YOU KNOW.. Might as well warn him, from one Valentine's-Day-newbie to another. ]
Hey Ange. Do you have a little to talk? I can totally understand if you don't want to. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything. I didn't say anything about the whole weirdo in my head thing because I didn't want to cancel on you again. And I tried to hide it because I was worried about freaking you about the whole thing. He's gone now, back in his own body or whatever. I just wanted to sorry for all that. You deserve better than that.
[ Oh god. Ange already feels like screaming when she sees the notification that she has a message from that username. Not that she didn't know this talk was inevitable, but-- wouldn't it be nice if she could just somehow avoid her problems forever. ]
It's fine, Ruby. I never blamed you.
[ Even though it might have seemed that way, with how quickly she got out of there right as Ruby tried to explain. But the explanation given her - it's very much like Ruby. Not wanting to disappoint her, so just going ahead despite having an old man in her head difficulties. ]
[ This is the worst one, because while Eda and Ange are something like friendly, they sure aren't friends. She takes a breath, not quite looking at the camera ]
Look, kid, what happened, uh, with the whole fight and Ruby and all that. It was some Deerington stuff, made me think I was somebody else. Not really somebody else, but a me who's not me. All that's to say thanks for killing me. Dunno how many more humans I'd've hurt, if you hadn't.
And also.. not what Ange expected at all. Even though she at least knows by now that there were doubles of people going around, it didn't click in her head at all that that figure could have been Eda's double - not when it was exactly what Ange expected witches to be like, anyway. So when she receives this video call and hears those words, Ange's pokerface melts away to reveal something looking infinitely more confused.
That.. wasn't Eda just showing her true colours..?? ]
Wait, you're thanking me?
[ NOT TO MAKE THIS MORE AWKWARD, but!! Why. She doesn't get it at all. ]
[It's a while after the whole incident with the Evil Michael before Michael bucks up the courage to start issuing apologies. Easier than if it had been him - like, physically this him - but it's still a pretty bad look.]
Hey, it's me. I'm sorry for that douchebag me that was on here earlier. He was a real dick to you.
[ Receiving a text from Michael? Not that weird. But when she looks at what the actual text is, Ange is pretty surprised. Surprised enough that she needs a minute or two before she starts writing up a reply. ]
Why would you apologize? It's not like it was you.
Or, well, I guess it was you, but it wasn't the you I'm talking to right now.
[Movie nights with pizza and snacks at Ange's apartment had become more frequent over the last few weeks since the two of them had started going out. The robotic eye had made it easier for Ruby to focus on the movie with out getting weirdly headachey too. Everything sort of had a red tinge to it now but she was finding herself more comfortable with that.
She was also finding herself more comfortable with sticking around a later at Ange's. They had done sleepovers before but it was definitely a little different now that they were #girlfriends, it felt a little more natural to plan to bring a pair of pajamas and a change of clothes with her.
Which is what Ruby had just returned to the living room changed into, one over sized t-shirt and a pair of a boyshorts. She settled back into the couch beside Ange and grinned, looking back to the tv screen.]
[ Oh no, this is Dangerous. Ruby being over at her place is pretty normal. Them having both impromptu and non-impromptu sleepovers is also pretty normal at this point.
But the devil is always in the details. Like this detail, of Ruby having changed into a kind of outfit Ange has never seen her in before. And it's not even really scandalous by any standards, and yet Ange can feel her cheeks heating up a little bit all the same. Ruby just looks cute like this. (But then again, when doesn't she.) ]
Oh, um, not much. [ She says, trying to hide her fluster as she scoots over a little on the couch to make room for Ruby again. ] They're just plotting the heist.
[ Because of course they're watching a dumb action movie. Who has time for romcoms on a girlfriends night, right. ]
You seem like you're.. getting comfortable. [ Ah yes, Ange. So smooth. So natural to say. Good job. ]
[ Ozpin really does not think he was remiss in simply excusing himself from the situation once it had been... resolved, so to speak. Being shunted back into his own body had been a welcome relief for absolutely everyone involved, and it left him no need to interact more properly with the young woman Ruby had spent her afternoon with. Ozpin cannot begin to imagine she would want to hear from him.
Still, Qrow had... perhaps made a reasonable point. To extend apologies for the chaos would be polite, and this is someone who seems to mean a great deal to Ruby.
He does owe her something, after their day together. After the strange and somber notes they'd shared. He owes her a great deal more than this.
So, rather out of nowhere, this text appears: ]
Miss Ushiromiya?
My name is Ozpin.
I believe we recently met under... less than ideal circumstances.
[ When Ange sees she's received a text, it's not from any username she recognizes. It makes her raise an eyebrow as she grabs her Fluid to take a closer look - and it's then that she sees the message.
Oh.
Oh.
Just the reminder of that disaster is enough to make her feel embarrassed all over again, and the girl drags a hand down her face before replying. ]
Yes. You're the old man in Ruby's head.
[ Being real helpful towards this apology here, Ange. ]
Just a check in. [Ahem] I'm trying not to worry tooo much, particularly given that this entire town is going to hell and there's less and less of a safety net.
But still. You can handle a few overgrown worms, I'm pretty sure. Are you doing alright in the middle of all this western nonsense?
[ Only Ange can say that with the same calm someone speaks of the weather with. But hey, no one got hurt, so it's not like she's got anything to get upset about. It was more annoying than anything else. ]
I'm living with Ruby now. At Ozpin's place. Hopefully you'll.. [ Ange's voice momentarily trails off, since it's still so weird to openly admit that someone is worrying about her, but.. it's hard to deny it when Vira-Lorr has shown it so clearly before. ] .. you'll worry a bit less about me, knowing that there's quite a few other people here around me at pretty much all times.
[So the dream is falling apart and they all might die at any moment, and Fern is still concerned that the last time he and Ange talked she was too happy. Which is a weird, silly thing to be concerned about, but it really wasn't like her and as fun as baking had been he's still worried.
On top of that, there were those times they've had talks about their futures, the most recent being at prom, and with the egg revelations there's more worry that's just piling up.]
heyyy how are you holding up?
(please say you're back to normal and like butterflies)
[ Reading this text makes Ange wonder if this is what it's like to have a hangover. It sure feels like it. Especially since that last sentence sends her reeling right back in memory, and she has to shove her face into her pillow and groan for a solid two minutes before she can even roll over to text Fern back on her Fluid. ]
Yes, I'm back to the usual. And also like butterflies.
And I'm not exactly a fan of being cooped up or having to relive incredibly embarrassing memories every other minute, but. You know. I'm surviving.
[It had been a couple weeks since Yang had gone home. And something didn't quite feel right. Ruby was so used to having her sister or some member of RWBY around and they had almost always shared a room.
There was a certain emptiness in the room and it made it harder for Ruby to sleep at night. On top of all he other horrors going on in town.
After a restless couple hours of trying to get to sleep, she eventually came up with an idea. She crept out of bed and gently padded out of room and into the hallways of the clock house. Between tip toeing down the hallways humming whatever spy tune came to mind and a few bursts of her semblance she made her way over to Ange's room. She gently knocked on the door as lightly as she could.]
[ It's not like Ange didn't expect to hear something in the night. Maybe that's why she hasn't been sleeping as well this month - it feels like something could happen at any moment.
But she expected to hear something a little louder. An earthquake. This entire place falling apart. Monsters. Something like that.
Not Ruby's voice softly calling her from beyond the door.
Ange frowns, immediately slipping out from underneath the covers and walking over to the door, opening is. She's wearing her pyjamas, and her hair is a mess, but she does look pretty seriously worried when she sees Ruby standing there. You never know what could be wrong here in Deerington, after all. ]
What's wrong, Ruby..?
[ She manages to keep her voice soft, a whisper, but it's sounding a tad sleepy. ]
